Samples of leaves shafts, roots and seeds with symptoms of plant pathogens microorganism we are taking and it used the conventional methodology for the isolation and identification of the species. Under laboratory conditions was evaluated the effect of eight fungicides applied to the seed for the control of Rhizoctonia solani and Fusarium spp. through the infestation index and the percentage of germination. The appropriate application doses for the most effective fungicides in the treatment to the seed were necessary to evaluate. Was studied the behaviour of four variants for the control of plant diseases from the field behaved in the seed. The results showed that the main diseases in the chickpea in Cuba are those caused by the Complex of Fungus of the soil among which Fusarium spp, Sclerotium rolfsii, Rhizoctonia solani and Macrophomina phaseolina and of them. The most important for the damages that take place and their frequency with which it is Fusarium spp. The treatment to the seed with the fungicides throws in a dose of 4 g of i.a / kilogram of seeds or Falisolan to reason of 3 g of a.i / kilogram of seed was effective in the control of the mushrooms of the soil. The application of systemic fungicides in the reproductive stage of the crop the indexes of infection of fungus that affect the quality of the seed and the yields and population crop level of chickpea diminish.}, }

The cultivars were evaluated using qualitative characters: Fruit type and Pungency and the quantitative character: Infection rate against to Tobacco etch virus (TEV). The accessions behavior were registered during two years in different evaluation moments, using a susceptible control 'California Wonder' for the comparison of the diseases development. The data were processed by Factorial Analysis of Simple Correspondence in order to the germplasm classification and this base the best cultivars were selected. The insects populations density was determined by means of direct observation plants and the insects dynamics concurrence was evaluated. It was observed that, the relationship existent among the virus-vector-host with the cultivation cycle, the favorable climatic conditions of wind speed and temperature, as well as the natural reserve present in the cultivation fields, was appropriate for the expression on high degree of the TEV during the evaluation years. A wide variability was detected in the germplasm studied; they stood out 34 accessions with low infection index; what represents that 25% of the germplasm evaluated offers resistance to the virus under natural infection conditions, for what they constitute a valuable genetic reserve for the improvement programs.}, }

The embryos were culture on MS (1962) media without growth regulators. Germination, plant height, root length and number of leaves and proline content and electrical conductivity in leaves were determinate. Results showed that the variables evaluated were inhibited when saline concentrations increased and were observe a total suppression of growth at 2% NaCl. Root length, levels of proline and electrical conductivity showed a different behaviour among genotypes and allowed to identify the genotypes P 2546 and P 683 as the most susceptible and the genotype Tayuyo as the most tolerant, so that they can be use as possible markers for selection of salinity tolerant genotypes.}, }

The purpose of this paper was the determination of the best storing conditions at short and medium term (at temperatura 5±2 °C) of two maize varieties. The varieties were stored at aluminum cover and glass container with two seed moisture content values. Each sample was extracted from the chamber every four months during 24 months and the germination tests were made. The obtained results proved the existence of a differential behavior between varieties into the specie for the ex situ conservation at cold chamber. The experiment was carried out in the farm La Amalia, municipality of Boyeros in September 2003 and January 2004. Seventeen descriptors from the ear and the grain were evaluated. The descriptors with the highest variability were chosen and included in the principal components analysis and the cluster analysis, using the first principal components score as input variables for the clustering process. For the classification of the germplasm two aspects were taken into account: the grain type and the geographic origin. The cluster analysis shown the formation of 6 sections and allowed the establishment of the core collection formed by 19 accessions, which represents a 20 %, with the objective of gathering more than the 70 % of the alleles from the base collection in the core collection. The principal stratum was integrated by 16 landraces, because this portion represents the variability of the collection according to the type of grain and they are distributed taking into account the geographic origin as follows: three from the Western, five from the Center and eight from the West. Three commercial varieties were included in the core collection with the goal of the representing several genetics forms used in the Plant Breeding Program.}, }
