In its composition there are no sedimentary or volcanic-sedimentary rocks. The original descriptions suggest that they are banded (fluidal) and brecciated acid lavas, later, others add that massive, fluid lavas predominate, sometimes banded and sometimes with micro-folds, subordinate brecciated lavas are presented. In some cases, secondary alterations such as oxidation and some recrystallization of the quartz occur. Regarding its stratigraphic relationships, the authors point out that they cut off the Camujiro and Piragua formations. It is discordantly covered by the Durán and Jimaguayú dam formations, while nothing is said about the underlying, evidently because there is no such. These are lavas from last residues from magmatic chambers that fed bodies of the intrusive complexes of region, now characterized by a predominantly acid composition, poor in volatile, fluid in nature, which favors the formation of extrusive domes and complexes of fluidal domes. All these characteristics make it possible to question the category of Formation, which it has traditionally had, and propose its redefinition as an informal unit, more in accordance with what is established in the Cuban Code of Stratigraphy, proposing the name of informal unit Lavas La Sierra.}, }

Our work was aimed to a biostratigraphic characterization of all the facies containing high amount of radiolarians. The chosen facies did not count with a defined age interval due to the lack of detailed studies. 87 surface samples and 75 oil well samples of the Canasí deposit, all belonging to the Vega Alta Formation were studied at the Biostratigraphic laboratory of the Petroleum Investigation Centre. The samples correspond to the siliceous/clayey facies of the lower limit of the Vega Alta Formation. The methods used included wash, suspension and Scanning Electron Microscope for a total of 43 radiolarians species identified and the first report in Cuba of the specie Phacodiscus duplus. The age interval according to these results falls in the Lower Eocene Ypresian taking into account the interval zone RP-9: Phormocyrtis sriata striata. The biogeographic distribution reported indicates a transition between high and medium latitudes and over 1000 meters’ depth.}, }

In past decades, resources were invested in geological investigations for this type of deposits distributed in sediments of different genesis that are not exploited. As a research methodology, proceeded to rescue the primary field materials in different formats, their reports, articles, as well as the information obtained by the authors in field visits and interviews at current extraction sites. The interpretation - generalization of the information made it possible to detect methodological deficiencies in regional studies regarding the selection and taking of samples, as well as the lack of attention to studies developed by the IGP. Considering their distribution, dimensions, characteristics and sizes of the gold particles, the sources of contribution are classified into three large groups related to sediments of the: Northern Ophiolitic Belt, Cretaceous Volcanic Arc and the Passive Continental Margin. It is recommended to draw up a strategy that allows to resume the methodological works, verification - evaluation of a group of these deposits, in the Havana - Matanzas, Central and NW of Holguín regions. Se utilizaron espectrometrías de: Absorción Atómica (EAA) y de Emisión Óptica con Plasma Acoplada por Inducción (ICP) en medio HNO3. Se analizaron los ríos; Santa Lucía, Palma, Biajaca y Nombre de Dios, vinculados a depósitos de sulfuros polimetálicos del modelo genético SEDEX en el distrito metalogénico “Santa Lucía-Castellano”. Los resultados se compararon en un punto común de muestreo en aguas del Santa Lucía y confirmaron que el índice de contaminación se incrementó 1,12 veces. En los ríos Santa Lucía, Palma, Biajaca y Nombre de Dios, disminuyó la contaminación y, en la medida que sus aguas se acercan a las fuentes primarias de contaminación por presencia de sulfuros pirito-polimetálicos, esta se incrementa, clasificándose en categorías de intensidad de contaminación desde cercanas a la neutralidad y bajas actividades iónicas de EPT en disolución a elevadas, extremas y ultra ácidas con valores de significación de actividades iónicas de EPT disueltos, respectivamente. Las aguas del Santa Lucía alcanzaron tasas de contaminación incrementadas 113 veces en relación con las del Palma, mientras que en el Biajaca se incrementan 1,11 veces. Nombre de Dios fue el acuífero de menor índice de contaminación del total de muestras que se evaluaron. La aplicación de este diagrama permitió el incremento del grado de conocimiento actual de los procesos biogeoquímicos DAM en acuíferos superficiales del distrito estudiado, por lo que se recomienda su aplicación a otros cuerpos hídricos que se vinculen a yacimientos, proponiéndose su inclusión en el paquete analítico de evaluaciones geoquímicas de impacto ambiental.}, }
