Las geociencias no estuvieron al margen de estos cambios, y a solo tres años del triunfo de la Revolución cubana, se levantaban con fuerza para contribuir al futuro económico y social de la Patria nueva. Una de las decisiones tomadas para promover el desarrollo del conocimiento geológico del país fue la concentración de las colecciones de valor científico con el objetivo de crear una institución especializada, dedicada a elevar la cultura del pueblo en lo referente a la geología y las ciencias afines. En este trabajo se analiza la labor divulgativa desplegada por el Museo Geológico y Paleontológico “Mario Sánchez Roig”, enfocada en la diseminación del conocimiento geológico hacia la sociedad, tanto al gremio geocientífico como al público en general. Las colecciones del Museo representan el archivo visible de numerosas investigaciones llevadas a cabo por especialistas del Instituto de Geología y Paleontología y colaboradores del ámbito nacional e internacional, como demuestra el gran número de trabajos que contribuyeron al aumento de sus colecciones o que fueron realizadas en base a los datos contenidos en sus fondos. En los últimos 10 años, el Museo ha estado implicado en numerosas actividades educativas y de formación vocacional, entre las que merecen una mención especial los Festivales de Geología y Sociedad, un enorme movimiento geocientífico divulgativo creado en 2013 por jóvenes entusiastas y científicos vinculados a diversos departamentos del IGP.}, }

Se utilizan resultados de visitas del Grupo de Control de la Actividad Geológica a los objetivos, sus actas, información económica, así como los informes, tareas técnicas y otros documentos relacionados. Partiendo de la revisión bibliográfica crítica y de los resultados obtenidos se evalúan las metodologías usadas en las investigaciones geológicas y se valoran acciones futuras. Se incluyen objetivos concluidos o en proceso de investigación para menas primarias y oxidadas. Los modestos resultados obtenidos indican un incremento del conocimiento geológico y trazan nuevas direcciones diferentes a las del Programa Nacional del Oro. Se concluye que los gossans son objetivos inmediatos con mayores posibilidades a desarrollar con financiamiento estatal, pero se impone la revisión de las estrategias en las investigaciones geológicas desde el punto de vista de su proyección. La factibilidad de los proyectos dependerá de la solución a las insuficiencias de la base analítica, la acreditación de los laboratorios y la falta de personal capacitado frente a los proyectos. La capacitación urgente del personal dirigente necesita de procedimientos actualizados y claros, con mucho auto estudio y cursos dirigidos. Estimar la eficiencia de las inversiones en las investigaciones geológicas permitirá a los decisores evaluar fortalezas y debilidades. Los resultados muestran que el ciclo de investigación geológica es dilatado y costoso, lo que pone en peligro la continuidad de las operaciones.}, }

Reported species are distributed in Upper Jurassic to Upper Cretaceous formations. These are mainly present at the western zone: Jagua, El Americano, Artemisa formations, and Veloz, Paraíso and Margarita formations in central zone among others. Knowledge about Cuban ammonites mainly comes from research work over Jurassic and Cretaceous well known fossil locations fulfilled by Cuban and foreigners paleontologists during the first half of the 20th century. Geological surveying carried out by researchers from the Academies of Sciences of both Cuba and the former European socialist republics contributed deeply to this topic. According to the mapping and observations results, one hundred and fifty four genres, containing the 310 species and subspecies of ammonites reported to Cuba were described. The Cuban Stratigraphic Lexicon, where the most general and comprehensive data reported on the geologic formations of Cuba are provided includes only 25 per cent of such species. This highlights the importance to complete this valuable information. For this reason, all ammonites species described for Cuba were enlisted, as well as their reference sites with the corresponding lithostratigraphic units. This will allow to enlarge the information about the presence of such fossil cephalopods in the stratigraphic record, and extend it to those units in which ammonites reports missing.}, }

Two weathering profiles were chosen, one in the quarry “La Esperanza” in Matanzas and the other in “El Ruso” in Pinar del Río, of calcareous regolith and clay regolith respectively. With this, an exhaustive geological and geophysical investigation was carried out, which allowed characterizing each one of the samples and establishing the mineragenic value of the profiles. The existence of La Esperanza quarry was established, where ridges and blocks are extracted, which are then reduced to tiles or tiles for wall cladding and other uses. The graphs of concentration of the radioelements, and other graphs and pre-established relationships were analyzed, obtaining a spectrometric characterization of the calcareous and clayey regoliths in the mentioned cuts. The following were carried out: mapping of the types of coastline; multitemporal analysis of the coastline using aerial photographs and satellite images from different periods; field survey and processing of the required information and calculation of the CVI based on six variables (four geological-geomorphological and two meteorological). The graphic outputs were: a 1:25,000 scale map of the types and subtypes of coastline according to Decree Law 212/2000 for the Management of the Coastal Zone; a 1:25,000 scale cartographic representation of the net movement of the coastline with eroded and accreted areas in 28 windows or sectors, associated with population centers or economic objectives; a 1:100,000 scale Marine Abrasion Resistance map of the Coastal Zone; and CVI mapping at a 1:25,000 scale for 20 of the sectors. The MGR covers General Researches (GR) and Mineral Exploration (ME). ME covers four stages: 1- Potential assessment (first part of the search), 2- Geological Reconnaissance (second part of the search), 3- Prospecting, and 4- Exploration (Detailed Prospecting). Another axiom is that without an effective search there are no new discoveries and there is no mining future. This transforms it into an essential strategic component, so it must be obligatory to do so and it is also obligatory for all those involved to be guided by its results. After analyzing critically scientific, technical, organizational, legislative and economic documents, it was concluded that in Cuba the Mineral Potential Assessment (MPA) has been excluded from prospective actions. It means that the potential for critical minerals that are known to exist is not adequately known and there is no scientific guide for the Reconnaissance, which is practiced around the known mineral occurrence and eliminates from the very beginning many probabilities of finding new deposits. In addition, the Geological Reconnaissance (GR) methodology is not effective. Numerous examples prove that GR has been made in places of historical mineral potential, and after a long time and a high cost does not discriminate areas for prospecting. Therefore, this must cover a huge area through its very expensive direct work. The study includes proposed solutions according to the national context.}, }
