Funded by the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development (AICS), the overall objective was to increase yields up to 0.4 t/ha in demonstration areas, improve the quality of coffee for export and train 467 local actors. Innovative technologies were introduced, such as irrigation systems, solar drying, integrated pest management and agroecological techniques, in addition to establishing demonstration plots and germplasm banks. The results showed a 232% increase in production between 2014 and 2019, reaching 179 tons of exportable quality coffee. Processing efficiency was improved and environmental impact was reduced through sustainable technologies. The training sessions strengthened the skills of producers and technicians, promoting the participation of women and young people. The project not only revitalized coffee growing in Guisa, but also served as a replicable model for other coffee-growing regions in Cuba.}, }

This study aimed to determine the genetic parameters in cocoa fruits and seeds (Theobroma cacao L.) to select parents in F1 hybrid crosses. Four cocoa clones were used, performing 12 combinations of crosses, including self-fertilization, simple and reciprocal crosses. The fruits were characterized by measurements of mass, size and number of seeds, among other parameters. 16 genotypes were evaluated in a completely randomized design with two replications. The results showed additive and dominance inheritance patterns, with significant maternal and reciprocal effects on traits such as cocoa pulp mass, number of seeds and average mass of a seed. The genotypes ‘UF-650’ and ‘GS-29’ stood out as male parents to improve cocoa pulp and fruit mass, while ‘IMC-67’ was optimal to increase the number of seeds. Hybrid combinations ‘GS-29 x Pound-12’ and ‘UF-650 x Pound-12’ showed high potential due to heterosis values. It was concluded that proper selection of parents and hybrid combinations is crucial to maximize cocoa yield and quality. Genotypes ‘UF-650’, ‘GS-29’ and ‘IMC-67’ are promising for genetic improvement programs, highlighting the importance of maternal and reciprocal effects on phenotypic expression.}, }

The objective was to strengthen the University-Company link through an action plan that would integrate academic training with local productive needs, promoting research, innovation and the application of scientific knowledge in the solution of real problems. Theoretical and empirical methods were used, such as documentary review, observation of productive processes, discussions with key actors and historical-logical analysis, to diagnose and propose improvements in the articulation between the Municipal University Center (CUM) and the Agroforestry Company. The main results included the implementation of research projects and theses that addressed local problems, the training of producers and managers, and the integration of students in work practices linked to agricultural production. Greater cohesion was achieved between teachers, students and producers, strengthening the comprehensive training of professionals and their impact on local development. The conclusions highlight that the University-Business link is essential for sustainable development, aligned with national objectives and the 2030 Agenda. The collaboration between the CUM and the Agroforestry Company has allowed progress in the substitution of imports, the export of results and the application of technologies adapted to local realities, consolidating an effective synergy between academia, business and public policies.}, }

The objective was to evaluate the impact of extra-curricular activities in natural environments, such as the Cupeynucú Botanical Garden and the Martiano Forest, in strengthening this value. The work was done with 23 fourth grade students at the Fabricio Ojeda Barazarte primary school (Guisa, Granma) during the 2022-2023 school year. An initial knowledge test was applied and activities such as excursions, visits and camping were organized, with the participation of specialists, teachers and family members. At the end, the test was repeated and the results were analyzed. The main results showed a significant improvement in the students' knowledge and attitude towards the environment. In team 4A, 65% initially evaluated poorly went on to have no negative evaluations. In team 4B, the 15% rated as average was reduced to 3%, and in team 4C, the 20% rated as good increased to over 95%. In addition, 800 trees were planted, including endangered species, and environmental awareness was promoted in the community. The findings highlighted that contact with nature strengthens the value of responsibility and that family participation is crucial for effective environmental education. It was recommended to raise awareness among families for their greater involvement.}, }

In Granma province, Cuba, the integrated management of this pest was evaluated in three reference areas with different agronomic conditions. The objective was to analyze the behavior of the berry borer and the effectiveness of control measures such as cultural, ethological and biological management, using the parasitoid Cephalonomia stephanoderis and traps with alcoholic attractants. Demonstration plots were established on Robusta and Arabica coffee farms, where the berry borer population was monitored and agrotechnical practices such as pruning, de-tacking and shade regulation were applied. The results showed that areas with poor agrotechnical management presented higher infestations, highlighting the importance of proper management. The parasitoid significantly reduced the stages of the berry borer, while traps proved to be effective in capturing adult females. It was concluded that the combination of cultural, biological and ethological practices is essential for pest control, although its success depends on the correct execution of agrotechnical measures.}, }

Four main tasks were implemented: incorporation of women in Coffee Graft Production Centers (CPI), preparation of School Structures, evaluation of female participation in agricultural transformation and revaluation of their work through surveys and impact analysis. The results showed a significant increase in female participation, exceeding the initial goals in the CPI and School Structures. Greater awareness of gender equity was highlighted, with 33% of women in technical and managerial roles. However, gaps persist in remuneration and access to usufructs, where only 11-12% of women are usufructuaries. The surveys revealed that, although equal rights are perceived, factors such as low wages and lack of care support limit female incorporation. It was concluded that strengthening gender equality in agriculture contributed to female empowerment, improving social indicators and the perception of the role of women in the sector.
