However, there is no relevant information on the effect of different substrates combined with fertilizers on seedling production in tubes. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of soil and rice husk combined with Multicote™ for the production of Coffea arabica L. seedlings in 180 cm³ tubes. A randomized experimental design with a factorial scheme (5x5x1) of 26 treatments was used. The studied proportions of soil and rice husk were 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% for each, combined with five doses of 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 g of Multicote™. The dependent variables were: plant height, stem diameter, number of leaf pairs, leaf area, and total dry mass. Significant morphological values of the seedlings were achieved with the treatment of 50% husk + 50% soil + 2 g of Multicote™; increasing the dose of Multicote™ in this same soil-husk combination did not show statistically superior morphological values. It is concluded that the combined use of 50% soil and rice husk can be used as a substrate in tubes for seedling production. In this combination, it is not necessary to use doses greater than 2 g of Multicote™, which reduces production costs.}, }

The study evaluated biomass and nutrient extraction in Theobroma cacao L. plantations propagated by clonal mixture in Baracoa, Cuba, with the aim of optimizing crop management and promoting sustainable practices. The problem lies in the high dependence on external fertilizers and nutrient losses through leaching, which affects the economy and the environment. Plantations of 35 years old were selected in three sites, under the shade of Gliricidia sepium, and different plant organs (leaves, stem, branches, fruits, roots and litter) were analyzed to determine their contribution to biomass and nutrient extraction (N, P₂O₅, K₂O). The results showed that the main stem (29.33%), roots (18.07%) and primary branches (17.90%) were the major contributors to the total biomass, while fruits, although economically important, accounted for only 14.58%. Regarding nutrient extraction, fruits mainly demanded potassium (69.3 kg/ha), followed by nitrogen (30.0 kg/ha) and phosphorus (12.2 kg/ha). Leaves, roots and stem also showed significant nutrient extraction. It was concluded that structural organs are key in biomass accumulation, while fruits are the greatest nutrient demanders, highlighting the need for proper fertilization management to maintain crop productivity and sustainability.}, }
